Sephiria Characters - Costumes, Companions, and Unlocks

In Sephiria, the playable choice is a Costume: a pre-run modifier that can change stats, resources, combat rules, or starting tools. Use this 1.0 directory to separate Costumes from appearances, story NPCs, and companion units before planning an unlock.

1.0 scopeOfficial launch materials confirm more than 20 Costumes. Detailed roster fields remain gated by the current English Journal.

Characters vs Costumes vs Companions

“Character” is the useful search term, but it is not one interchangeable in-game category. The correct label tells you where to look and whether an unlock changes a run.

Costume
Playable run modifier. Selected in town before descending. It can change damage rules, movement, survival, resources, or a starting item.
Appearance
Visual variant. A look attached to a Costume rather than another gameplay entry. Do not add appearances to the playable total.
NPC or story character
Person in the world. Quest, dialogue, village, chapter, or encounter context. Elru and Perr belong here, not in the Costume room.
Companion or follower
Allied unit. Produced by an item, weapon, event, or another system. Companion damage support is a build lane, not a playable-character unlock.

Costume choice sits beside the six base weapon identities and the rest of a complete build. A Costume can point a run toward debuffs, special attacks, an element, dash play, Grimoires, Artifacts, or companions, but it does not replace the inventory around it.

Verified Directory

This launch directory publishes the six Costume effects named in the official 1.0.19 notes, plus indexed story and system entries. It intentionally does not turn an unverified community roster into a fixed 27-row stat table.

Journal gate

Official English name, current effect, downside, starting item, unlock condition, client version, and evidence must all be captured together before a complete Costume row is added. Until then, the current English Journal and selection tooltip win.

Dedicated guide A focused 1.0 page documents the evidence and caveats.

Community lead Useful for indexing, not yet enough for an exact walkthrough.

Mixed sources The category is supported, while specific units and unlocks remain system-dependent.

Browse by Playstyle Tag

Choose the action or damage source you expect to repeat, then check both the Costume benefit and its cost. These tags point to verified examples where one exists and mark Journal-only lanes where the current roster is not yet fully captured.

Beginner

No verified Costume is a universal beginner winner. Prefer a tooltip with a benefit you will use and a downside that does not break your weapon rhythm, dash timing, or basic survival.

Dash and Grimoire lanes

Older guides describe rule-changing options, but their mechanics have a patch history. Treat the live Journal as the requirement before choosing one for a Hard Mode or long unlock attempt.

Featured: Elru Quest

Elru is a story and quest character, not a playable Costume. Her focused page covers the Hide-and-Seek prerequisite, the three reported town locations, Ingenuity context, and stuck checks without burying them in this directory.

  • Distinguishes official system context from community location clues.
  • Keeps exact quest routing on one maintained page.
  • Links back here when the question is about Costumes instead.

Perr and Other NPC Entries

Perr belongs in the index now, but the current source archive does not justify forcing a thin standalone URL or an exact 1.0 walkthrough.

Indexed here

Perr

An older community achievement guide places Perr near the village carrot field and associates dialogue with the Soul Project achievement. Treat that as a search lead only. Use current NPC dialogue and the Journal objective for the actual 1.0 state.

Elru

Elru earns a focused page because the supplied evidence supports a complete question: prerequisite, hide-and-seek sequence, Ingenuity result, and recovery checks.

Other NPCs

Future entries should record the official English name, category, location or chapter context, role, version, and source. A standalone page waits for a stable search question and enough verified detail to answer it.

How Unlocks Work

Costume conditions fall into several patterns. The pattern helps you plan, but the exact requirement must come from the current English Journal because Early Access guides, tooltips, and effects have changed.

Starting availability

Some Costumes are available without a dedicated unlock run. Confirm the current starting set on your save.

Single-run goal

A condition must be completed inside one descent. Build around the required action from the opening area instead of hoping to finish it late.

Cumulative goal

Progress accrues across runs. Treat it as a long-term milestone and avoid repeating a threshold copied from an old guide.

Story or Hard Mode

Some entries sit behind chapter progress, an event, or a Hard Mode clear. Check the Journal after the milestone and after relevant dialogue.

Linked ownership reward

A reward can depend on owning another TEAM HORAY title. Platform ownership, not an in-run action, controls this category.

  1. Open the locked Journal entry.Read the requirement on the current client and note whether it says one run, total progress, story, Hard Mode, or ownership.
  2. Match the run plan.Choose a weapon, damage source, and inventory lane that can actually perform the condition.
  3. Finish and return to town. After meeting the condition, recheck the Costume interface before repeating the attempt.
  4. Record version and evidence. If the tooltip and result disagree, save the client version and capture both before publishing a correction.
Why the full 27 stats are not listed

The supplied archive includes a community video title that references 27 characters, but it does not include a complete current English Journal capture for every name, effect, starting item, and unlock condition. Publishing those numbers as fixed 1.0 data would turn an evidence gap into false precision.

FAQ

How many playable characters are in Sephiria 1.0?

Official launch materials say Sephiria has more than 20 Costumes. This guide does not publish a permanent exact total until the current English Journal is captured, because later updates can add or rebalance entries and appearances are not separate playable Costumes.

Are Sephiria Costumes just skins?

No. A Costume has a visual identity and can also change stats, resources, starting conditions, movement, or combat rules. A purely visual appearance remains attached to its parent Costume.

What is the best Sephiria character for beginners?

There is no verified universal winner. Start with a Costume whose downside does not disrupt your chosen weapon, dash timing, or survival, then favor reliable execution over a narrow damage ceiling.

Are companions playable characters?

No. Companions or followers are allied units produced by other systems. They can shape an Artifact, weapon, or co-op plan, but they are not selected from the Costume roster.

Is Elru a Costume?

No. Elru is indexed as a story quest character. Use the dedicated Elru guide for her quest and Ingenuity context.

Where is Perr?

The archive contains an older community lead that places Perr in the village near the carrot field, but not enough current evidence for a standalone walkthrough. Follow the live Journal and dialogue, and use Perr’s indexed entry on this page.

Why does an old unlock guide disagree with my game?

Early Access and 1.0 patches changed Costume effects and fixed unlock or tooltip mismatches. Use the live client first, then compare the guide’s stated version before repeating its route.
